Save the Internet

Congress is currently considering legislation that would gut Network Neutrality and change the internet forever. This change would allow internet service providers to determine which web sites would load quickly--and which wouldn't load at all.
Up until now, the internet's neutrality has allowed small sites--such as blogs--to compete with large corporate sites. Anyone who can put up a web site can have a chance for their voice to be heard. If Network Neutrality is lost, the sites that pay service providers the most money might have the most accessible sites, and small businesses and bloggers would have difficulty competing.
I urge my fellow bloggers to go to Save the Internet and get involved. There's a petition to sign, graphics to put on your blog, and information about the current legislation. Doing one or two small actions will only take a minute, but it will ensure your representatives and the public know where you stand on this important issue.

Thanks, Tess, for mentioning the serious threat to net neutrality on your website. It has the potential to fundamentally change the way that the Internet operates, squeezing out the little people. They were hoping to sneak through this change, but as more people find out, maybe we can stop it. This is one of those issues where most people oppose what is going on once they find out about it. People on all parts of the political spectrum are opposing these changes advocated by the big telecom giants.
