January Days

A certain toddler of my acquaintance is still not reconciled to the fact that Christmas is over. Today he put on his Santa hat and started playing with all his Santa-hatted stuffed animals. After dinner, he still demands candy from his advent calendar.

I can identify with his longing to keep the special season going for as long as possible, but at the same time, I'm happy for the fresh start that January brings. I did, however, leave the Christ candle from the advent wreath on the table--both because Ben has decided he likes candles at dinner, and because I like the symbolism of the light carrying over into the new year.
