Saturday Art: Mike Edition
Kaela's in bed and asked me to contribute a "Saturday Art" post again. She specifically requested this picture:

That's our ex-next-door neighbor Helena. The picture is from a month or so ago when we had a sidewalk sale -- the kids quickly tired of sitting on the sidewalk surrounded by junk and were playing in the house, now and then peeking out the window.
But anyway...the real point is, following in the great tradition started by our beloved host Tess (and Tom and Ben), Francesca, Ed, Daniel and Helena moved away this week. They packed up their house and drove off to Carlisle. A few months ago, another good friend, Wendy (and Jim and Amelia) moved off to the suburbs. And all of this follows, almost two years exactly, the departure of Tess and Tom and Ben.
We have some new friends -- we had donuts and coffee in the park with them this morning! -- and some old friends moved into town -- dinner and a movie at their house last night! -- so it's not like we're socially starved. But still...we miss our friends. I still miss sitting on Tess and Tom's couch once a week reading the New Yorker. Francesca's enthusiastic Tuesday night bad TV and cocktails is now like another evening of sitting on the couch after Antje goes to bed. And let's just say I'm not half the exercise partner Wendy was for Kaela.
But we're staying. We've lived here longer than we've lived anywhere as adults, so new neighbors were inevitable. We miss our friends, and thinking of them makes us sad. But we know where they all live. They visit us and we visit them. It's not the same, but we're working it out.

I wish I could take pictures worth a darn, but I can't. Great photos!
How Helena looks is how I feel right now. Peering through a shaded window. Still trying to play but feeling sad. Hoping someone will come in. Holding my penguin.
carrie_lofty: my system is simple: take a thousand shots and a few of them should turn out.
stuntcesca: I was going to write "Thank you for your great effort" as a joke, but that seemed morbid.
